QFX (Quicken Financial Exchange)

Intuit's proprietary variant of OFX used exclusively by Quicken for downloading bank and credit card statements. Structurally identical to OFX but includes Quicken-specific headers.

Understanding QFX (Quicken Financial Exchange)

QFX (Quicken Financial Exchange) is Intuit's proprietary variant of the OFX format, designed exclusively for importing bank and credit card transactions into Quicken personal finance software. Structurally, QFX files are nearly identical to OFX files but include Quicken-specific header fields.

The key difference between QFX and OFX is the INTU.BID header field in QFX files, which contains a Quicken-specific bank identifier. This field tells Quicken which financial institution the data came from, enabling proper account matching. Standard OFX files lack this field.

Many banks offer both OFX and QFX download options. If you use QuickBooks rather than Quicken, you typically need to convert QFX files to QBO format (adding QuickBooks-specific headers) or to CSV for further processing.

Why It Matters for Ecommerce

If your bank only provides QFX downloads (designed for Quicken) but you use QuickBooks, you need a format conversion. PrimeConnect's QFX-to-QBO converter handles this translation, preserving all transaction data while replacing the Quicken-specific headers with QuickBooks-compatible ones.

Practical Example

Your credit union provides transaction downloads only in QFX format. You use QuickBooks Online, which expects QBO files. Using PrimeConnect's QFX-to-QBO converter, you upload the QFX file, the tool strips the Quicken headers, adds QuickBooks-compatible OFX headers, and outputs a QBO file you can import via Web Connect.
